It all started with an idea...

On the evening of Easter 2022, I was waiting for guests to arrive late in the evening and I decided I’ll just sit here and paint a bunny for fun. Anyway, I painted a loose image of a bunny and then I posted it on my Instagram and my Facebook pages @oldhowlongpost. The post said something to the effect of: "Oh well what else do you do while you’re waiting for guests to arrive, late in the evening, Happy Easter everyone, Eat, Stay, Play at the Old Howlong Post Office, luxury accommodation."

Anyway, not long after that I got a direct message from Nick Hawtin, a friend and business owner of a great place called the “Caffeine n Machine” in Rutherglen. Nick sent me a DM on Messenger and said how much for the bunny and don’t be ridiculous. Meaning that he liked it, however didn’t want to pay a lot for it.

Anyway, I sent him a message and said I don’t know Nick how about $150, it’s just an A4 and I had never sold a piece of art and it’s not in a frame. I said that I could probably do something better for him. He came back to me with, could you do one with aviator glasses and I said okay I’ll give it a crack. Send me through an example, so he did.

So, I sketched up a couple of faces and took them over to Nick and he thought that they were pretty cool. I said I’ll go and paint them, anyway so I started painting them and whilst I was painting them, I thought Nick has a bike museum at the back of his cafe and I’m thinking, I should do a Bunny on a Bike anyway as they say the rest is history. That’s how “Bunnies on Bikes” were born.
